The starting price of $799 for the iPhone 15 matches that of the last three models
Apple unveiled the iPhone 15 during their annual September event in Cupertino, California. The world’s most valuable company, now with a staggering worth of $2.75 trillion, introduced four new models on Tuesday.
- iPhone 15 ($799 – $1099)
- iPhone 15 Plus ($899 – $1199)
- iPhone 15 Pro ($999 – $1499)
- iPhone 15 Pro Max ($1199 – $1599)
What alterations have occurred?
The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will continue to utilize the A16 Bionic chip from the previous year, while the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will feature the new A17 Pro chip built on a 3nm process.
The most significant alteration this year pertains to the charging method. In response to European regulations, Apple has embraced the USB-C charging standard, replacing the longstanding Lightning port. This transition to the new cable is expected to enhance data transfer speeds and simplify charger compatibility for consumers across various devices.
What is the extent of the price increase for current iPhones?
The annual tradition of unveiling the latest iPhones has persisted since the late Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs, introduced the inaugural iPhone in 2007. This groundbreaking piece of technology has evolved into the world’s most beloved smartphone and Apple’s top-selling product.
The original iPhone carried a hefty price tag of $499 upon its debut. Nevertheless, in the subsequent year, Apple’s revamped iPhone 3G was notably more budget-friendly, priced at just $199.
iPhone prices remained stable following the 2009 debut of the iPhone 3GS until the introduction of the iPhone 5c in 2013. The latter, with its vibrant colors and a more budget-friendly price of $99, marked a significant milestone as the most affordable iPhone in history.
As prices gradually increased and the market demanded feature-rich phones, the iPhone’s pricing steadily ascended, particularly with the introduction of the Plus models—larger and more expensive devices designed to accommodate larger screens.
However, it wasn’t until 2017 that Apple took an unexpected turn by launching the iPhone X and reaching unprecedented price levels with a formidable $999 price tag. Although initially daunting to many, more consumers began to adapt.
Now, with an introductory price of $799, the base model iPhone 15 maintains the same starting price as the three preceding models, spanning from the iPhone 12 (released in 2020) to the iPhone 14 (introduced in 2022).
