Once more, Apple has delivered with the iPhone 15 Pro Max
Apple has once again delivered a surprise with the iPhone 15 series, surpassing our expectations. Although the internet’s leaks provided some insights, witnessing these captivating devices is a game-changer.
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus have aligned their designs with the Pro models, but the Pro lineup boasts additional features, with the iPhone 15 Pro Max standing out with significant upgrades. Let’s delve into what sets this phone apart.
Camera upgrades
Apple claims that the camera system in the iPhone 15 Pro Max is like having “7 camera lenses in your pocket.” While the phone technically has four sensors, the versatility of these cameras validates the statement.
You have the ability to capture breathtaking macro images and expansive ultra-wide landscapes. However, the most significant enhancement is the introduction of a periscope lens, enabling 5x zoom support. The primary camera boasts a 48MP sensor that seamlessly transitions between three focal lengths and offers the capability for ProRes video recording directly to an external drive. Additionally, the iPhone 15 Pro’s intelligent depth detection allows you to add bokeh effects to your photos in post-processing. Furthermore, be prepared for the upcoming release of Spatial Videos, an immersive format set to arrive on the Apple Vision Pro.
Action button
Bid farewell to the traditional Mute Switch, a fixture since the inception of iPhones. The iPhone 15 Pro introduces an innovative Action button that extends its functionality beyond muting your device. You have the option to customize it for various tasks such as launching your favorite apps, capturing selfies, recording audio, or executing shortcuts.
Certainly, you can still use it to silence your phone, but the process has evolved from a simple switch flip. Now, you must press and hold the button until you feel a vibration and observe an animation on the Dynamic Island. The button can also be configured for a range of other functions, including opening the camera, initiating voice recordings, enabling accessibility features like the Magnifier or flashlight, or executing shortcuts.
Small design changes, big difference
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max represent the most lightweight and stylish Pro iPhones to date, achieved through the use of a fresh titanium casing and a refined screen border. Apple has transitioned from stainless steel to the more robust and lighter Grade 5 titanium, seamlessly bonded to an internal aluminum structure. In comparison to the prior model, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is approximately 20g lighter. Furthermore, the remarkably slim bezels result in a more compact and user-friendly device, all while maintaining a 6.7-inch display size.
USB Type-C
Apple has at last replaced the Lightning port with USB-C across all iPhone 15 models. Particularly, on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, you’ll enjoy a lightning-fast USB 3 connection capable of transferring data at speeds of up to 10 Gbps. This translates to the ability to record ProRes video directly onto an external drive, alleviating the burden on your phone’s storage.
The inclusion of USB Type-C also eliminates the need to carry an additional Lightning cable.
A17 Pro processor
An iPhone Pro refresh without a corresponding Apple Silicon update? Unthinkable. The iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts an enhanced System on a Chip (SoC) known as the A17 Pro. This marks the inaugural use of the “Pro” designation for an iPhone chip, a nomenclature previously reserved for desktop CPUs. The A17 Pro stands out as the world’s initial processor in any consumer product constructed on a 3nm process, enabling it to cram more transistors into the same space. Apple reports that this chip encompasses a staggering 19 billion transistors, a notable leap from the 16 billion found in the A16 Bionic. Additionally, Apple notes that the chip’s power cores offer a 10 percent increase in speed.
However, the most significant advancement can be witnessed in the realm of graphics. The A17 Pro houses a hexa-core GPU that adopts an entirely fresh shader architecture and introduces support for ray tracing. This innovative GPU provides a 20% boost in peak performance and improved energy efficiency. This enhancement empowers the iPhone 15 Pro Max to seamlessly handle console games such as Resident Evil Village.
But the enhancements don’t stop there. The Neural Engine experiences a substantial performance surge, precisely doubling the speed of its predecessor while still maintaining its 16-core configuration.
