Our campers find joy in life’s simple pleasures – beaches, walks, and stargazing – from the untamed Highlands to the sunny Scilly Isles.
For a chance to win next week’s competition, simply scroll down to find the winning tip. Dark Skies Camping, near Llandovery, provides an idyllic camping experience with only 10 pitches, allowing guests to enjoy the tranquil surroundings and star-filled sky next to a cozy fire. With the Cambrian mountains and Brecon Beacons nearby, hikers will find plenty of opportunities to explore. The hosts, Tanya and Duncan, maintain immaculate campsite facilities and offer valuable local advice. As soon as you set foot at Llyn Gwynant campsite, which costs £13 per person, the breathtaking view of the magnificent mountains mirrored in the lake will inspire you to take a deep breath and escape from the stresses of daily life. We stayed there with our two young children and our rough collie Gwen, who thoroughly enjoyed the freedom, vast open spaces, and the beach by the lake. The availability of fire pits enabled us to relish roasting marshmallows under the shimmering stars. The lake, which is the primary attraction, is stunning, and you can rent paddleboards and kayaks. The on-site pizzeria also serves excellent food. Irrespective of the weather, each time you unzip your tent, the view is enchanting and makes it hard to leave.
Last summer, we reserved one of the two yurts at New Bank End Farm for £750, which accommodates four people. Interestingly, we opted for public transportation throughout our eight-night stay. What made our experience extraordinary was the location. The yurt was situated on a hill that overlooked the Channel, surrounded by a forest inhabited by red squirrels. We were pleasantly surprised by the abundance of these cute creatures (including babies!) who would approach us fearlessly and even raid the cherry trees. Additionally, the proximity to Ventnor’s botanical gardens was a plus. The yurts were spaced out, providing a peaceful and private ambiance. Moreover, we were located on the coastal path and adjacent to the hops used to create the island’s renowned beer.
Side Farm is my preferred campsite, which charges £15 per person, located right on the banks of Ullswater. It’s a simple yet peaceful place that offers great walks. However, due to the narrow entrance track, it only accommodates tents and small campervans. You can take a walk up to the ferry launch, and then cruise back to the site, making it a perfect experience.
Upon arriving at Henry’s Campsite, the southernmost in the UK, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a subtropical Shangri-La. The site boasts stunning sea views, hippy vibes, stargazing opportunities, exotic flora, and free-range animals. It’s only a 10-minute walk from the South West Coast Path and two minutes away from Lizard village, where you’ll find several beaches, pubs, and places to purchase pasties and cream teas. Each pitch has its unique character and the feel of wild camping, adding to the sense of adventure, calm, love, peace, and happiness I experienced during my stay.
